Resources for teachers, by teachers

I'm really excited to use the Sony Xperia Tablet with K-2 students. I'm sure that they will think of even more ways to use the apps than I will.

The first 6 year old that I handed the Xperia Tablet to immediately tapped on an app to open it. It was intuitive. I did need to show her how to get back to the home screen and how to get back to the other apps she had opened. At first I just let her play and experiment to help her learn how to use the Xperia Tablet. She had no problems moving to a different screen. It wasn't long before she wanted to know how to get more apps. She was very excited to use the Xperia Tablet for learning.

I chose basic apps to start with because I wanted the kids to get used to the Sony Xperia Tablet first. I also chose a creative art app, a reading app, a memory, listening app, and a math practice app.

Here are the initial apps that I used with the primary students:

Picasso Kaleidoscope: I chose this app because it was an easy app to use. Yet it has choices to be made and the user produces beautiful designs. The students learned  about mirror reflection designs just by moving their finger on the screen. The pictures can be saved or shared via email or any social media app installed. The students had no difficulty using this app and loved the results.

I Was So Mad!: I wanted to try a book with the students.  We had just read Just Grandma and Me by Mercer Mayer  book so I chose I chose another one of his books as an  app. The students enjoyed hearing it read, reading along    with it and reading it by themselves.

Classic Simon:  I thought Simon would be a good app  for listening and memory. I started it out in slow speed,  classic (4 color) mode. It was just right for these  beginners. I’m sure it won’t be long before they are ready  to increase the difficulty.

Penguin Jump Math:  This is a fun math drill game. I chose the Addition practice for the students. The app  allows for practice in Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication,  Division and Mixed. The difficulty level can be adjusted.  The students loved it!
