Resources for teachers, by teachers

Comics Head is a comic-based storytelling app that is available for both Android and iOS tablets. It is full featured and easy to use, and the items can be shared almost anywhere!

There is both a free lite version (which has a watermark) and and a $3.99 full version available in the Google Play Store.

How it works

Your first pick a blank panel template or templates that are already filled in that you have the ability to edit. The filled-in ones are a nice place to get ideas.

There are icons for backgrounds, characters, props, themes, your photo library, importing maps, layers and much more. You simply hit the help button and the labels for each icon show up. This makes it easy to learn how to use the app.

There are lots and lots of picture assets to pick from as well as effects, some of which follow the theme of your background.

For the backgrounds, Comics Head provides indoor and outdoor images, solid and textured backgrounds, and the ability to bring in your own image from the Gallery or take a picture right within the app.

It is easy to place assets in the comic and rotate, reverse, and even change the layers to place an item backward or forward. You can save the item and come back to edit it later. This is great for classroom situations!

Here is my finished comic story.

The finished product can be shared in many ways, including Google Drive and the Gallery as well as various social networks.

Comics Head includes the ability to freehand draw and mark up a comic. However, I brought the finished image into a screencasting app (like Explain Everything and Lensoo for Android) and recorded the short story.

Here is the completed story with audio.

Comics Head can also be used for storyboarding a video production, illustrating a how-to in a science class, or in many other ways. It is easy and fun to use!
